First week in Qatar

OK, so we've been here for a week now and I have been desperate to get access to a computer to let everyone know we made it. This is what we have experienced so far:

- It takes 4 days to recover from a time change of 10 hours!!!!!
- When at the mall or other public places people constantly touch Madeleine and Victorias hair. As long as people stay away from my hair I guess I'm fine with it.....and the girls love the attention. We definitely don't blend in with the crowd here!
- Driving a car means having approx. 10 heart attacks during a 15 minute ride.....I just don't know if I'll get used to it but I better.
- Trash is emptied every day here at the villa....and this happens to me at a time where none of my kids are in diapers....grrrr!

We moved into our villa Sunday and are extatic! It's like staying at a luxury resort! The compound has approx. 50 villas and while we were unloading the car the kids found friends and we didn't see them for 3 hours. During dinner they couldn't finish quickly enough to go back outside to play.....great!

We've been spending mornings by the pool which is equipped with a jaccuzzi and more importantly a phone so that we can call the nice guys at the clubhouse and ask them to bring freshly squeezed juices. There is a small restaurant, a great playroom equipped with computers, Wii, toys, pool table and more......the kids already feel comfortable enough to stay there by themselves (well, there are constantly 2 nice men watching them) so I feel like I'm on vacation.

Tomorrow we're visiting the school and Madeleine and Mathias will be taking a placement test to ensure they are starting at the right level. Their first day at school will be Thursday I think......I'll be back then I'm sure!

Greetings to you all - a belated Happy 2010! - and we miss you even if we're having a great time so far!

  1. Hi Mathias (and Madeline and Victoria) it's Anna. Wow it sounds like you are having lots of fun. I laughed when I heard that people like to touch Madeline and Victoria's hair. We are learning about body parts in Miss Jolly's class. We miss you, Drew really misses you. Is it hot there? Can't wait to hear more about Qatar.

  2. Wow Rikke-
That sounds amazing! I'm glad the kids are so happy and have found friends already. You were on my mind today as I am reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Somehow thinking of that part of the world makes me think of you :) Hope everyone continues to adjust nicely!
Joseph and Julia say hello to Madeleine, Mathias and Victoria!
    Best, Jennifer

  4. By the way - maybe you could somehow make it easier to comment on your blog? I had to try 3 different logins, because I am a wordpress blogger...
